Update on the GCIA Memorial - National Arboretum

Post date: Mar 31, 2015 8:11:11 AM

Following our plea for funds to be raised to enable the restoration of the GCIA memorial, we had a fantastic response from the branches as well as individual's and the work started on the GCIA National Memorial on 23rd January 2015, and is progressing well.

On 31st January on a cold and wet morning, the digging out of the foundations were completed, with the shuttering in place ready to start the construction stage. We are most grateful and admire George Martin (HQ Branch) who has volunteered to apprentice himself to the Stonemason Andrew Brown-Jackson for the duration especially on these damp and cold wintery days.

During the summer hopefully when the weather will be fine, we shall arrange a re-dedication of the memorial, details will be given in the next newsletter and we hope that those that are able will attend.

There are organised visits to the Arboretum by coach companies throughout the year from your local area.
