From 1st to 28th March 2012, Harrods will be flying the Maltese flag in celebration of the hidden gems promotion at the world-renowned store. An array of stunning displays by Maltese artists will be exhibited throughout the luxury store to give visitors a taste of the modern and traditional delights of Malta.

This unique event, providing different and innovative ways of showcasing Malta, is being organised by the Malta High Commission in the UK, together with the Malta Tourism Authority, Malta Enterprise and FinanceMalta.

A sunken galleon full of Maltese artifacts will take up five of the store's shop windows, greeting the 1.2 million monthly visitors at Harrods as they enter the store. Inside, digital screens will depict a series of Maltese facts, whilst on the fourth floor an art exhibition with works by 30 Maltese artists will take pride of place. Mdina blown glass, antique silver and Maltese photography will also feature.

The 105,000 readers of the store's monthly magazine will also get a taste of the Mediterranean, thanks to a special Malta supplement which will be distributed with the magazine. The exhibition will include an area dedicated to hosting business meetings.

The exhibition has been timed to coincide with the 70th anniversary of Malta receiving the George Cross for the "heroism and devotion of its people" during World War II.

Malta's High Commissioner to the UK, Joseph Zammit Tabona, explains "it is not the first time Harrods has hosted such an exhibition and countries such as Morocco, Switzerland and Thailand have previously held similar activities there. The Harrods ethos that ‘anything is possible' chimes perfectly with Malta's vision for tourism and investment. This initiative, which marries tourism and investment promotion, seeks to promote Malta as a strong investment platform, presenting the Islands as a modern, dynamic country to investors and tourists alike."

"Harrods is delighted to be hosting such an inventive, exciting and visually appealing promotion. The luxury institution is an excellent platform to showcase the diversity of what Malta has to offer to desirable, elite and often hard to reach customers from the UK and beyond", says Guy Cheston, Harrods Director of Media Sales.

The UK is Malta's largest tourism market with a total of 435,000 visitors from Britain. The success in this market is the result of investment from the government and stakeholders increasing accessibility to Malta and providing an effective promotion of the tourism industry. Furthermore, Malta boasts a highly productive, educated & skilled work-force working in a proactive business environment, making Malta a strong option for British investors.
