Trafalgar Day - 21st October

Although not a GCIA event, the victory won by the Royal Navy, commanded by Vice-Admiral Horatio Nelson is remembered and celebrated by our members so is very worth a mention in our news page.
Many parades and services take place, along with the traditional Trafalgar Day dinners and we hope to be publishing photographs sent in by you, our members, in the Gallery page of this site. Click the Gallery tab and take a look.
There will be a ceremony on the 21st in Trafalgar Square with the Royal Marines and the Sea Cadets to celebrate the 207th anniversary of the battle of Trafalgar.
The Association of Men of Kent and Kentish Men hold a church service, parade and wreath laying every year to celebrate Trafalgar Day in St Georges church Deal. This year, there were approximately 50 in the congregation and 15 Standards from various Military ex service organisations. South East GCIA member, Jack McNulty laid a wreath on behalf of the GCIA and Edward Barkway (South East Vice-Chair) carried the local British Legion Standard. After a service of short prayers, hymns and battle of Trafalgar "history" readings, the Standards led by Deal RAF Cadet force band march to Captain Parkers tomb (a favourite Cpt of Nelson's) paid for by Nelson where wreaths are laid
